(AP) ? Space shuttle Endeavour rocketed beyond Earth orbit 25 times. Its 26th mission: A 12-mile commute through the streets of Los Angeles to its new retirement home in a museum.

With Endeavour permanently on the ground after a majestic aerial spin Friday around California, crews over the weekend will begin unbolting the shuttle from the 747 jumbo jet and putting it on a special flatbed trailer, a process that will take a few weeks.

The road trip in early October to the California Science Center has been billed as a parade, but some residents along the route have objected to the cutting down of some 400 trees to make room for the five-story-high shuttle with a 78-foot wingspan.

A crowd recently packed a public meeting where concerns were raised about the loss of shade and greenery in their neighborhoods. Museum officials have pledged to replant at least double the number of lost trees.

But Friday brought nothing but good feelings as the shuttle became California's biggest star, the people its paparazzi.

From the state Capitol to the Golden Gate Bridge to the Hollywood sign, massive crowds of spectators pointed their cellphones and cameras skyward as the shuttle, riding piggyback atop a 747 jumbo jet, buzzed past.

Peggy Burke was among the hordes of camera-toting tourists who jammed the waterfront along the San Francisco Bay, reflecting on the end of an era.

"It's just a shame that the program has to end, but I'm so glad they came to the Bay area especially over the Golden Gate Bridge," she said. "Onward to Mars."

At the Hollywood & Highland Center, a shopping complex with a view of the Hollywood sign, revelers yelled and screamed.

"It was like being in Times Square for the millennium," said Blue Fier, a college photography professor. "This is right up there. It was pretty cool."

Known as the baby shuttle, Endeavour replaced Challenger, which exploded during liftoff in 1986. Endeavour rolled off the assembly line in the Mojave Desert in 1991 and a year later, rocketed to space. It left Earth 25 times, logging 123 million miles.

Friday's high-flying tour was a homecoming of sorts.

After a nearly five-hour loop that took Endeavour over some of the state's most treasured landmarks, it turned for its final approach, coasting down the runway on the south side of the Los Angeles International Airport, where elected officials and VIPs gathered for an arrival ceremony.

As the jumbo jet taxied to the hangar, an American flag popped out of the jet's hatch. Endeavour will stay at the airport for several weeks as crew prepare it for its 12-mile trek through city streets to the California Science Center, its new permanent home, where it will go on display Oct. 30.

NASA retired the shuttle fleet last year to focus on destinations beyond low-Earth orbit. Before Endeavour was grounded for good, Californians were treated to an aerial farewell.

Endeavour took off from Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave desert Friday after an emotional cross-country ferry flight that made a special flyover of Tucson, Ariz., to honor its last commander, Mark Kelly, and his wife, former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

It circled the high desert that gave birth to the shuttle fleet before veering to Northern California. After looping twice around the state Capitol, it swung over to the San Francisco Bay area and Silicon Valley and then headed down the coast, entering the Los Angeles air space over the Santa Monica Pier. En route to LAX, it passed over a slew of tourist sites including Dodger Stadium, Disneyland and the Queen Mary.

The cost for shipping and handling Endeavour was estimated at $28 million, to be paid for by the science center. NASA officials have said there was no extra charge to fly over Tucson because it was on the way.

Endeavor's carefully choreographed victory lap was by far the most elaborate of the surviving shuttle fleet. Discovery is home at the Smithsonian Institution's hangar in Virginia after flying over the White House and National Mall. Atlantis will remain in Florida, where it will be towed a short distance to the Kennedy Space Center's visitor center in the fall.

Derek Reynolds, a patent attorney from a Sacramento suburb who saw the last shuttle launch last year, felt the flyover in Sacramento was a rare opportunity to share a firsthand experience of the space program with his 5-year-old son, Jack, who he pulled out of kindergarten for the day.

"I want him to experience it and give him the memory since it's the last one," Reynolds said.

As Endeavour approached LAX, other airplanes were forced to circle and wait. Passengers on an American Airlines flight from Miami snapped pictures and shot video out their windows as the shuttle arrived.

"This was a once-in-a-lifetime event," said pilot Doug Causey, who has been flying for 29 years. "That was a real treat to see something like that."

5 Reasons America Is Better Off Now Than 4 ... - Top Finance Blog

Talk about timing. I started this blog in December 2008, just after Barack Obama had been elected president but before he took office. Since this is a finance blog and I was tracking things at that time, I can easily go back through the archives to see what was going on back then and compare it to now to see if the country is better off than it was back then. And I can do it impartially, although those who disagree with the president and don?t want him to win reelection will find some way to disagree anyway.

So be it; that?s what America is all about. Anyway, with what?s chronicled on this blog in reserve, I can give you 5 reasons why America is better off now that it was 4 years ago.

1. Job losses. Yes, the unemployment rate is still very high. We?ll get to that in a minute. Back in 2008 and early 2009, this country was losing hundreds of thousands of jobs a month. There were 693,000 jobs lost in December 2008. In the last week of January there were over 100,000 jobs lost; you can?t blame that on Obama since he?d just gotten into office. And there was talk about just letting the automobile makers declare bankruptcy and lay off tens of thousands more people; it was a scary time.

Instead, there was a stimulus package and a bailout of banks and that stemmed the tide of massive layouts and gave banks a chance to get their act together. Whether it really created a bunch of jobs or just saved some is immaterial; what happened is that many businesses got a sense of peace and the high layoff rates declined drastically within six months.

2. Unemployment. Now it?s time for unemployment. In November 2008 unemployment got to 9.5%; by January it was around 10.4%. As of August 2012 unemployment nationally is around 8.1%. Now, naysayers are saying that?s because a lot of people have dropped off the rolls and aren?t looking for jobs anymore. The truth is that?s always how it?s been. The unemployment figure has always been somewhat suspect because there are always people who don?t find jobs within the time they were on unemployment, and some of that happened when there weren?t unemployment extensions. So, using the same lousy data, there?s still been an improvement of 2.3%; just the facts.

3. Bank closures. When the stimulus package to save banks went through, it was only the mega banks that got help. By the beginning of September 2009 there were 84 banks that had been closed, and many of these were large banking systems. By September 14th of 2012 there have been 41 banks that have closed. This doesn?t say that the economy is perfect, but it?s improved a lot.

4. Housing market. Back in 2009, more than 2.8 million homes were foreclosed upon. Not only that, but both Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae were booted from the NYSE. Housing prices were dropping an average of at least 50% across the country; in Florida, Arizona and California, some properties lost 75% of their value.

In 2012, foreclosures are still around but nowhere close to what they were. States that were in great distress are starting to rebound as housing prices are starting to go up, and the building of new homes has started to occur again. Sure, interest rates are still very low, but how many people are complaining about that?

Inventory is also down as home buying has scooped up a lot of what was existing out there. And one more thing; some of those people who got kicked out of their homes via foreclosures will be getting a lot of their money back because of the government working to get settlements for many of them, supposedly as many as 500,000 families. Frankly, I see that as a win.

5. Health care. Yeah, I know, this one is debatable by some people. But the reality is that by the time this thing is enacted less than 10% of people won?t have insurance, but everyone will have the ability to get insurance.

And some of the benefits have already kicked in, and there?s almost no one mad at them. Pre-existing conditions have long been a major issue for everyone (including me back in the 80?s), and the ability to help cover young people to the age of 26 has to be a godsend.

Being in health care finance, I have to say that this is a great thing for medical facilities, even if some of them are trying to scare people because no one?s really sure how reimbursements will be yet.

But bad debt will decrease, fewer people will have to declare bankruptcy because of medical debt (you did know that 61% of those that declare bankruptcy have a large medical bill that they owe, right?), the condition that insurance companies have to spend at least 82% of your premium to pay medical claims, and the government?s push towards trying to make sure frivolous tests aren?t being performed (something that was the government?s fault to begin with), there should be all sorts of savings all around.

6. Stock Market I know I said only 5 reasons but leaving this one out wouldn?t make much sense. Just before President Obama took office, the stock market was in a free fall. In January 2009, the market was in danger of falling below 6,500, and it barely missed that figure. Last Friday the Dow closed at just under 13,600, which is near the highest close in history. I?m just sayin??

There you are, six reasons, all of them legit, none of them slanted because of party lines or politics. Still, people will believe what they want to believe, facts or not.

Finance nerds rejoice! Bloomberg has finally released its Radio+ into the Android ecosystem. Having been on iOS nearly a year (actually 364 days, but who's counting) people have been waiting on the inevitable Android release.

Featuring 24/7 access to the smartest names in finance, the app allows you to listen live to interviews and expert analysis on everything from the world of Finance, Business, Economics and Investments. Besides listening live, some of their most popular shows are even available on demand, allowing you to listen in when it's convenient for you.

Using the app is fairly straight forward. Listening live starts by default and as the apps main functionality, that makes sense. Tapping the gear in the lower left brings up the settings menu, on which the only option is to personalize the scrolling ticker. Tapping menu onscreen brings up what you see on the right-most screenshot. That's how you can access Bloomberg's On Demand shows, you can view their schedule, your saved shows, etc etc.

Initial reviews on the Google Play store are positive and it's free, so if you're a finance buff and Android enthusiast, the Bloomberg Radio+ app may be just the thing for you.

Thanks gekko!

99% Finding Nemo 3D

All Critics (220) | Top Critics (45) | Fresh (230) | Rotten (2) | DVD (48)

A genuinely funny and touching film that, in less than a decade, has established itself as a timeless classic.

It makes even more compelling what is still my all-time favorite Pixar film.

Think of this re-release as an encore, a handy touchstone for you and your kids. "Finding Nemo" was and remains the gold standard against which all other modern animated films are measured, a classic from the day it premiered.

In this seamless blending of technical brilliance and storytelling verve, the Pixar team has made something as marvelously soulful and innately, fluidly American as jazz.

Nemo, with its ravishing underwater fantasia, manages to trump the design glamour of earlier Pixar films.

The 3D gives the images a little more depth but they already had heft and weight. The 3D is a money-making gimmick, nothing more.

A great blend of storytelling and technology.

It's downright curmudgeonly to remain focused on the negatives when the rest of the picture is saturated with invention and wit.

It's bright, it's beautiful and it hasn't aged a day. So why, then, do we need to see it in 3-D?

A rare example of a movie that not only survives its 3-D conversion but benefits from it

It was as funny as I remember and brilliant because it is subtle. It just knocks it out of the park. I love everything about this movie, one of my favorite Pixar movies of all time, 5/5 Schmoes. The new sound/3D adds to the greatness that is Nemo.

If you're fishing for fun in an ocean of movie mediocrity, grab the kids or the grandkids, fork out a few extra bucks and see this one in three-dimensions.

It's a great movie, so much fun, an acheivement that should be enjoyed by children of all ages and worth seeing it in 3D.

Sea-worthy w/enhanced visual lure and rich, humorous characters set in a double narrative; this 3D revisit allows us to fall overboard all over again.

If ever there was a film that wasn't broke, this is it. So naturally they converted it into 3D for a special re-release this weekend. (Stupid irony.)

I believe my sensitivity to certain creative choices of the picture has dulled some, while age has opened my eyes to its complex relationships and tireless sense of exploration.

When the blunt head of Bruce the shark slams into the screen like a hammer, everyone -- adults included -- gasps

At its best, the added dimension is merely harmless, making the movie blurry enough that you need special glasses to make it sharp again.

[VIDEO ESSAY] Disney/Pixar's 3D upgrade of its classic animated children's movie - using the expensive Xpand 3D format - has the duel effect of darkening the film's vibrant colors while adding considerable depth to the screen.

If the Pixar vault was on fire and they could only save one film, it'd be this eminently re-watchable modern fairy tale...Looks all the more stunning with this state-of-the-art 3D retro-fit.

Switched On: Rubber brands

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.

Switched On Rubber brands

One sits far atop the Android smartphone heap while the other has recently stepped up its efforts to compete more aggressively by acquiring the stake of its decade-long joint venture partner. But at the recent IFA event, electronics giants Samsung and Sony both acknowledged the importance of their smartphone sub-brands by stretching them into new product categories. For Sony, its Xperia sub-brand hopped across to its tablet while Samsung brought the Galaxy brand to a connected camera. How these companies have stretched these brands reflects their relative position both in terms of where they've moved from and where they've moved to.

For Sony, the move of Xperia to another product category represents somewhat of a full circle (as does the return of the Sony brand to handsets itself). Part of the early playbook for Sony Ericsson was to bring established Sony Electronics brands -- notably Cyber-Shot and Walkman -- to phones focused on imaging and music in the heyday of the feature phone, which the joint venture clung to for too long. Xperia, in contrast, was the company's first "native" sub-brand meant to evoke "experience", of course. And while many in the line have been well-received, they never translated into a strong global market share for Sony Ericsson.

US, Russian astronaut trio lands safely in central Kazakhstan onboard Soyuz capsule

ALMATY, Kazakhstan - An international three-man crew onboard a Russian-made Soyuz capsule touched down successfully on the cloudless central Kazakhstan steppe Monday morning after 123 days at the International Space Station.

A fleet of Russian Mi-8 helicopters deployed from towns near the landing site ahead of the capsule's arrival early Monday morning to ensure swift interception.

NASA's Joe Acaba and Russian colleagues Gennady Padalka and Sergei Revin undocked from the orbiting laboratory somewhere over Nairobi, Kenya, some 3 1/2 hours before touchdown. The Soyuz craft remains the only means for international astronauts to reach the space station since the decommissioning of the U.S. Shuttle fleet in 2011.

The size of the three-person complement currently at the space station will be doubled when they are joined next month by U.S. astronaut Kevin Ford and Russians Oleg Novitsky and Yevgeny Tarelkin.

NASA's Sunita Williams took over command at the station Saturday from Padalka, becoming the second woman in history to do so. Williams, veteran Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and Aki Hoshide of Japan are due to return to Earth in the middle of November.

Padalka, who piloted the Soyuz craft back to Earth, was the first to be pulled out of the capsule, which rolled onto its side after coming down softly in the flat Kazakh countryside some 85 kilometres (50 miles) north of the town of Arkalyk.

Upon their return, astronauts are typically lifted onto reclining chairs to ensure comfortable acclimatization after months of living in gravity-free conditions.

Looking relaxed and smiling broadly while sipping a mug of tea and basking in the mild sunny conditions, Padalka waved at cameras that descended on the site soon almost immediately after landing.

"We honestly could not have asked for better weather out here today. The temperature's really good (and) the crew is obviously enjoying this weather," NASA spokesman Josh Byerly said in an online link-up from the landing site. "I have never seen the amount of clarity we had today."

With this mission complete, Padalka becomes the fourth most seasoned space traveller, having spent 711 days in space over four missions.

"I feel great," Padalka told attending recovery staff, before thanking colleagues for their assistance in his mission.

Acaba, who followed Revin out of the prone Soyuz capsule, gave the thumbs up sign as he was being lifted to his reclining chair and said: "It's good to be home."

In an uncustomary gesture, the astronauts signed their names on the capsule, which is due to be displayed at the Tsiolkovsky Museum in the town of Kaluga, southwest of Moscow.

The precision of the landing enabled a Russian recovery crew in all-terrain vehicles to reach the capsule within seconds of touchdown. Astronauts were given immediate medical attention and then shortly afterward transported by helicopter to a forward base in the Kazakh city of Kostanai, from where they were to begin their trip home.

Russia has suffered a series of blows to its space prestige in recent months with a string of failed launches, provoking some anxiety about what some observers believe to be excess U.S. reliance on the Soyuz program.

In August, a Russian booster rocket failed to place two communications satellites into target orbits, stranding the Russian Express MD-2 and Indonesia's Telkom-3 satellites in a low orbit where they could not be recovered.

A Russian robotic probe designed to study a moon of Mars got stranded in Earth's orbit after its launch in November and eventually came crashing down in January.

A few months before, a Soyuz booster rocket similar to those ferrying crews and cargo to the International Space Station failed, prompting officials to consider leaving the space outpost unmanned.

Bedford Corners Realtor | GSEs ease mortgage buyback rules on ...

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac eased some guidelines for lenders refinancing mortgages, including new relief from buying back the loan, according to an alert sent to lenders.

Beginning immediately, Fannie will waive future repurchase claims on the new loan if an appraisal on the property is done. Previously, if a lender obtained an appraisal, it was still responsible for representations and warranties for the property?s value on the new loan.

Freddie relieved lenders of buyback risk tied to ?creditworthiness, any other underwriting requirements, value, condition and marketability of the (the property) and certain fraud requirements? for refinance applications received beginning Nov. 19, according to its notice.

Repurchase risk still remains for new servicers refinancing a mortgage financed by either Fannie or Freddie.

Before the changes announced Friday, the GSEs required retail lenders to verify that at least one of the borrowers on the loan had a source of income if the monthly mortgage payment changed by 20% or less after the refinance. It waived this requirement Friday and will allow retail lenders to verify the borrower has enough reserves to cover 12 months of the new mortgage payment before approving the new loan.

The reserves can include checking and savings accounts, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and even amounts vested in retirement accounts, according to the changes.

The GSEs also reduced how much documentation lenders will need to get the refinance approved. Lenders won?t be required to verify a borrower?s past or current income. Fannie and Freddie also waived requirements to look into large deposits on borrower statements.

The changes were made to expand even further the reach of refinancing and to assist borrowers who owe more on their mortgage than their home is worth. The Federal Housing Finance Agency altered the Home Affordable Refinance Program to remove some repurchase liability on the old loan for the original servicer.

Other barriers to HARP including some appraisal requirements and upfront fees and a loan-to-value ceiling were also removed.

More than 519,000 underwater borrowers refinanced under HARP through July, more than the roughly 400,000 in all of 2011.

Democrats in the Senate reintroduced legislation last week to expand HARP to waive repurchase risk for all lenders, not just the original one. But the bill will not likely pass before the election in November, if at all.

Still, the GSEs expect the new rules will allow ?lenders more efficiently reach an even broader base of eligible borrowers,? according to the alert put out by Fannie.

Romney on debates: Obama will 'say things that aren't true'

Romney: Obama in Debates Will 'Say Things That Aren't True'Part two of George Stephanopoulos' exclusive interview.

With the first Presidential debate less than three weeks away, Mitt Romney is spending lots of time getting ready behind closed doors. In his first comments on that debate prep, he told me that Sen. Rob Portman is a tough stand-in for a President who basically lies in debates.

"I think the challenge that I'll have in the debate is that the president tends to, how shall I say it, to say things that aren't true," Romney said. "I've looked at prior debates. And in that kind of case, it's difficult to say, 'Well, am I going to spend my time correcting things that aren't quite accurate? Or am I going to spend my time talking about the things I want to talk about?"

The former governor told me he's tempted to use Ronald Reagan's famous line against President Carter in a 1980 debate, "There you go again" - the same line that Bill Clinton turned on Romney and the Republicans at the Democratic convention in Charlotte.

When I asked if Portman was crushing him in early debate preps, Romney was coy.

"I'm not revealing those kind of secrets. But I will never debate Rob Portman again," Romney said with a laugh.

"He's very good," he said.

[Senator John McCain expressed a similar sentiment after going against Portman in his 2008 debate prep. McCain later told the New York Times, laughing, "I hate him still."]

The debates are at a critical moment in the campaign with the latest polls showing Obama gaining an edge over Romney in the key battleground states.

Romney told me the debates "may well be" the campaign's make or break moment.

"Sometimes there's something big that happens and they become deciding. Other times, it's like, well, nothing really changed. We're in the same spot we were before the debates. I can't predict what'll happen. But I think it'll be revealing one way or the other," he said.

Romney said he wasn't concerned about new polls showing him trailing in Virginia and Ohio - even though it's virtually impossible for him to get the 270 electoral votes he needs without victories in those two states.

"Well, I'm ahead in a lot of other states, too. I saw one this morning, ahead in Florida, ahead in North Carolina. Gosh, we're even tied in Wisconsin," Romney told me. "These polls are going to bounce around a lot. I don't pay a lot of attention day to day to which state's up and which one's down. But I believe that when the final decisions are being made by the American people, they're going to ask themselves, "Who do I have confidence in to keep America safe? And who do I believe can get our economy doing what it needs to do?"

Romney said the most important numbers in this election are 23, 47 and 16.

"23 million Americans out of work or underemployed. 47 million people on food stamps. $16 trillion in debt. And now the Federal Reserve, it says, " Look, this economy is not going well," he said.

And it's because of those economic conditions some Republican allies are worried. George Will on "This Week" said "If the Republican Party cannot win in this environment, it has to get out of politics and find another business." Laura Ingraham said "If you can't beat Barack Obama with this record, then shut down the party, shut it down."

"Well you know, beating an incumbent is never easy. The president exudes an air of likability and friendliness, which is endearing," Romney told me. "But at the same time, I think people recognize that he has not done the job they expected him to do and that he promised he would do."

The race will be decided by "the people in the middle" who "won't make their mind up until the very, very last moment," the former governor said.

And many of those people - 63% of registered voters - want more details about what a Romney presidency would look like, according to our latest ABC News/ Washington Post poll.

The former governor cited his 59 point - and more than 150 pages - economic plan that he released, but acknowledged that "people aren't going to sit down and read a book."

"So that means that in the speeches I give over the coming weeks I need to lay out some of the principles that were described in that book. And I will in more detail," he said.

Democrats say Romney's plan would cause a $2000 tax hike on the middle class - something Romney disputes and points to a number of studies that say his plan to cut taxes will not increase the deficit, including one by Harvard professor Martin Feldstein.

Feldstein says Romney's math will work, but he would have to eliminate the home mortgage, charitable, state and local tax deductions for incomes greater than $100,000.

When I pressed Romney on that point, he conceded that he actually hadn't read the Feldstein report that he and Paul Ryan cite on the campaign trail.

"I haven't seen his precise study," he said.

"I said that there are five different studies that point out that we can get to a balanced budget without raising taxes on middle income people. Let me tell you, George, the fundamentals of my tax policy are these. Number one, reduce tax burdens on middle-income people. So no one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers," he said.

Romney defined middle income as $200,000 to $250,000 a year.

"Number two, don't reduce the share of taxes paid by the wealthiest. The top 5% will still pay the same share of taxes they pay today. That's principle one, principle two. Principle three is create incentives for growth, make it easier for businesses to start and to add jobs. And finally, simplify the code, make it easier for people to pay their taxes than the way they have to now," he said.

When I asked if he and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, would specify which loopholes they would close in order to pay for the tax cuts, Romney said he's relying on his experience as Massachusetts governor.

"I've found that you have to work with the people across the aisle. My legislature was 87% Democrat. So if I'd have come out and said, "Here this is my bill. This is the way I want it," you'd never get it done," he said. "You lay out your principles. Those are my principles, don't raise taxes on middle-income people, make sure the high-income people pay the same share they're paying today, encourage growth by bringing down rates, and finally simplify the code. Those are my principles. I'll stick with them. And I believe that's going to help get the economy going and grow jobs."

I also asked the presidential candidate about a recent poll number that showed registered voters by a 19% margin would prefer to have dinner with Obama instead of Romney.

So what's dinner like at the Romney house? "Chaotic," he said.

"You'd have grandkids climbing all over you. Probably some food would be thrown from one side of the table to the other by one of my grandkids. It'd be a lot of fun," he said.

"So I can't tell people who would have more fun at whose table. But I can tell you the president's a person that a lot of people like. I don't dislike him myself and wish him the very best. But I think the American people are looking for someone who has the capacity to help them get good jobs and more take-home pay. And I do," Romney told me.

Obama campaign fact-checks, fires back at "2016"

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Barack Obama's campaign has hit back at Dinesh D'Souza and his filmmaking team for their cutting characterization of the incumbent president in "2016: Obama's America."

On September 5, as the anti-Obama documentary continued its winning streak at the box office and the Democratic National Convention hit a crescendo with a rousing appearance by former President Bill Clinton, a pointed blog entry about "2016" was posted on BarackObama.com.

Calling D'Souza, a longtime fixture on the right-wing speakers' circuit, "a self-proclaimed expert on the President," the blog post on the campaign site's "Truth Team" page fires this opening salvo: "Right-wing author Dinesh D'Souza has recently released ?2016: Obama's America,' a movie that falsely smears President Obama as having a hidden agenda bent on realizing ?anti-colonial' ambitions."

The article calls into question D'Souza's use of his own work as a basis for building his argument about what moviegoing citizens "don't know" about the president - much of which stems from Obama's relationship with, and purported feelings about, his distant father.

Obama's "Truth Team" points to D'Souza's use of his own life story in the first part of the film, slamming the documentary's creator for "baselessly claiming his supposedly similar background gives him a special insight into the President's thinking."

The campaign site's impromptu review also offers counterpoints to specific claims the documentary makes about the president's politics. On the subject of the source of the controversial TARP bank bailout program, for example, the entry states: "D'Souza even claimed that President Obama passed the bank bailouts when the facts clearly show that it was President Bush who signed the Troubled Asset Relief Program into law in October 2008."

As if there was any room for doubt, the blog gives "2016" a clear thumbs down, concluding that the documentary is "nothing more than an insidious attempt to dishonestly smear the President by giving intellectual cover to the worst in subterranean conspiracy theories and false, partisan attacks."

"2016" has been analyzed and appraised by a number of sources, and D'Souza himself has engaged with critics like Bill Maher and the Associated Press' Beth Foulhy, whose article "Fact Check: Anti-Colonial Obama Not Plausible" spurred D'Souza to respond and call for an apology in an op-ed piece he wrote for TheWrap on September 3.

"Evidently this fact-checking article required its own fact-checker," D'Souza said.

Regardless of the White House's position on the documentary, "2016: Obama's America" has been a surprise hit amid a late-summer lull in theaters, pulling in more than $26 million to date at the box office. And though the film's momentum has slowed since its peak just before the Republican National Convention in late August, it's now the second most successful political documentary of all time.

Hurricane Kirk Gets Star Trek Treatment [VIDEO]

If America, and American workers, had an official alcoholic beverage, it would probably be beer. According to the Brewers Association, the overall U.S. beer market was worth $96 billion in 2011, when some 200 million barrels of beer were sold (1 barrel equals 31 gallons of beer). In the same year, 1,989 breweries in the United States were fermenting everything from light lagers to chocolaty stouts.
