ST. LOUIS, MO. (Missouri Sports Magazine Contributor Network) ? After trying out retirement for about six months, 35-year-old Randy Moss said he?s ready to head back to the NFL to tear off some heads. Moss made the announcement on Feb. 13 while broadcasting on Ustream in a video chat with fans that he refers to as Moss TV. He told fans that he still has what it takes as he can run 40 yards in 4.3 seconds and is fully committed to playing in the NFL again next season.
When first announcing his comeback it sounded like Moss would play with any team that would be willing to give him a chance, other than Minnesota. However, he later hinted that he?d like to play with a competitive club that?s looking to fill in a missing piece and definitely wants to win a Super Bowl. He also shared some of his personal thoughts with fans by telling them he regrets how he left both New England and Minnesota and also regrets how he retired last August.
Moss broke into the NFL in 1998 with the Minnesota Vikings and spent 13 seasons in the league as one of its best wide receivers. He scored 153 touchdowns during his career and gained 14,858 yards by catching 954 passes. Jerry Rice, with 197, is the only player in NFL history to catch more touchdown passes than Moss. Terrell Owens is tied with Moss at 153 for second on the all-time list, while Moss is fifth in history for yards and ninth in receptions.
However, Moss started to struggle in 2010 season when he was embroiled in a bitter contract dispute with the New England Patriots. He was playing out the final season of his deal, but was then dealt to the Vikings in early October. He lasted less than a month in Minnesota as the Tennessee Titans claimed him on waivers. He played four games apiece for Minnesota and New England that season and the final eight with the Titans. However, he managed just five touchdowns and 393 yards on 28 catches.
Moss played in Minnesota for the first seven seasons of his NFL career after the Vikings chose him in the 1998 draft with the 21st-overall pick. He enjoyed a fine rookie season with 17 touchdown catches. After leaving Minnesota he ended up playing two seasons on the west coast with the Oakland Raiders. He was then traded to New England for a fourth-round selection in the 2007 draft. With the help of quarterback Tom Brady, Moss? 23 touchdown receptions during his first season in New England (2007) were good for the NFL single-season record.
?
Many fans feel that Moss will end up with New England again if he plays next season, but he should also receive some interest from a few other clubs.
