DETROIT (AP) ? Three young men were arraigned Sunday in the assault and carjacking of popular Detroit pastor and gospel singing icon Marvin Winans.

The office of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy identified the suspects as Detroit residents Montoya Givens and Christopher Moorehead, both 20, and Brian K. Young, 18, of Macomb County's Clinton Township. They are charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery and conspiracy, said Maria Miller, Worthy's spokeswoman.

The charges carry up to life in prison.

The men appeared in Detroit's 36th District Court and were ordered held on $200,000 bonds. Their preliminary examinations, in which a judge decides where there's enough evidence for the case to go to trial, are June 1.

A prosecutor's spokeswoman said Sunday she didn't think the defendants had lawyers yet.

Winans, 54, was attacked Wednesday afternoon while pumping gas in Detroit. The robbers took his sport utility vehicle, Rolex watch, cash and credit cards.

"This is just an example of the diligence that our officers put forth when investigating criminal cases," police Chief Ralph Godbee said in a statement Sunday.

Worthy said she also was pleased with closing the case, but got in a dig at the effectiveness of Detroit police. She said she was "buoyed by the fact that this case was well investigated by the police and that we were able to charge this case quickly. However, with the proper resources this could be done in all cases."

She also said the city should be concerned about an increase in crime, especially offenses that never make it into police records.

Godbee said he agreed with Worthy that "reported crime ...has slightly increased." He called on citizens to make sure crimes are reported and that they cooperate with investigators in solving solve them.

Winans sustained bruises and scrapes and was treated at a hospital and released. He is pastor of the 4,500-member Perfecting Church and delivered singer Whitney Houston's eulogy in February.

"I'm just saddened that it has come to this," Winans said shortly after the attack. "This kind of nonsense just has to stop. It's just the savageness of what's happening in the street."

He continued with that message Sunday, as his congregants welcomed him with cheers and applause.

Recalling what he said to a woman who gave him a ride to his church after the attack, Winans said he told her, "I'm just sad ... to think we have reared young men to prey ? P-R-E-Y ? on people that they think are weaker."

Winans told reporters before the service that he believes Detroit can be turned around.

"The city is fixable, and it starts with the men of the city, in particular the black men," he said. "And I ... want to urge all of you men who hear me to go and get your sons. I'm not bitter. I'm not upset. I'm saddened by what has taken place. But I'm also inspired. We have to make a change in this city."

SCP Auctions, based in California, said the circa 1920 New York Yankees uniform top is the earliest known jersey worn by Ruth and it fetched $4,415,658 at the company's April auction, which ended Sunday. That price broke the previous record of $4,338,500 set in 2010 for James Naismith's founding rules of basketball.

Lelands.com said it submitted the winning bid for the jersey, which had been displayed for years at The Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore. The road top has "New York" written across the front and the Hall of Fame slugger wore it shortly after he was sold to the Yankees by the Boston Red Sox for $100,000 following the 1919 season.

Suzan French, a spokeswoman for Lelands.com, said the company plans to sell the jersey privately rather than re-auction it.

"Such a spectacular piece will find a home with one of our private clients who truly appreciates its historic significance," Lelands.com president Michael Heffner said in a statement.

Ruth retired in 1935 with 714 home runs, the major league record for nearly 40 years. Hank Aaron broke that mark and then was passed by Barry Bonds, who finished with 762.

In addition, Ruth's 1934 New York Yankees cap that was owned by former major league pitcher David Wells sold for $537,278 at auction. The colorful Wells bought the cap for about $30,000 from a collector and famously paid homage to his idol by wearing it on the mound with the Yankees during a game on June 28, 1997.

Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor's New York Giants Super Bowl ring from the 1990 season went for $230,401.

Those items also set records, for a baseball cap and a Super Bowl ring, SCP Auctions said.

"This proves again that Babe Ruth is 'king' in the sports memorabilia world," SCP Auctions president David Kohler said in a statement.

Also included in the auction was the high-end baseball card collection belonging to former big league All-Star Dmitri Young. Top prices were a 1954 Hank Aaron rookie card ($537,954) and a 1955 Roberto Clemente rookie card ($432,690). The proceeds will help Young begin a foundation to help kids and student athletes near his home in Ventura County, Calif., SCP Auctions said.

Their pitch: impose a tax of 50 cents on every $100 of trades of stocks, bonds, dividends and other financial transactions, which are not currently taxed. The U.S. would join more than a dozen other nations that already have a financial transaction tax, according to National Nurses United (NNU).

"I've been asked many, many times ... 'What are you doing here as nurses? ... What do you have to do with the economy?'"?Karen Higgins, a registered nurse and co-president of NNU, said to the crowd in Chicago's Daley Plaza. ?

Supporters include Nobel Laureate economists Paul Krugman, a New York Times columnist,?and Joseph Stiglitz, the former World Bank chief economist -- both of whom have spoken out in favor of such a tax in the past.

A bill introduced last November by two U.S. Democratic lawmakers, Sen. Tom Harkin and Rep. Peter DeFazio, calls for a tax of 0.03 percent -- or 3 cents on every $100 -- on most non-consumer financial trading including stocks, bonds and other debts. It would raise more than $43 billion a year, according to DeFazio's office, which cited analysis from Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation.

Others, however, are against what has been called a ?sin? tax on Wall Street.

?Our research shows unambiguously that higher trading costs depress the prices of stocks and bonds,? business school professors Yakov Amihud and Haim Mendelson? wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.??A transactions tax will end up punishing Main Street, hurting the economy and reducing U.S. Treasury revenues in the next few years. It will thus exacerbate the effects of the financial crisis.?

The tax proposal protesters were initially targeting the G8 summit of global financial leaders that starts today. But when that meeting was moved from Chicago to Camp David in Maryland, they opted to carry on their demonstrations here anyway to take advantage of the large number of protesters converging on the city for the NATO summit.

Mary O'Sullivan, 72, came to the protest with her husband Chris Fogarty, 77. The retired married couple each held a sign, one reading "Honk To Indict Banksters" and the other "Stop Gov't Crimes."

"We're hoping that even at this late date the government will recognize that there is so much pain and suffering amongst the people that they will at least start paying attention," O'Sullivan said, noting she had recently spoken with a woman at a city mental health care facility that's being closed down. "She has no idea where she is going to go or how she is going to get there, and in the meantime, we're spending millions of dollars on drones to kill people."

Earlier this week, protesters demonstrated against the shuttering of local schools and mental health clinics, the loss of homes through foreclosures, and environmental issues surrounding the controversial ?Tar Sands? pipeline, and they stormed the building that houses the headquarters of President Obama?s campaign.

The city has assigned 3,100 officers plus hundreds from other cities to guard against the kind of violence that broke out in the streets of Seattle at the World Trade Organization meeting in 1999, NBCChicago.com reported, and officials have warned of massive travel disruptions.

They?ve also imposed limits on how close the protesters, which include dozens of unions and anti-war, environmental, education, healthcare and civil liberties? groups, can get to the convention center where the summit is being held -- within ?sight and sound? of it, according to the Chicago Tribune -- raising the ire of the demonstrators.

The National Lawyers Guild, which is sending out legal observers to the demonstrations and aiding those who are detained, said late Thursday that at least 20 people have been arrested so far this week. Occupy Chicago said 11 arrests occurred Wednesday night at an area home ? though it?s not clear if those 11 were included in the guild?s tally.?

Organizers expect the biggest crowds at a rally led by anti-war activists on Sunday, in which a group of 9/11-era veterans plan to return their service medals to protest the "war on terror."

Todd Gitlin, a former leader of the 1960s-era group Students for a Democratic Society and a Columbia University sociology and journalism professor, said the Wall Street tax was an obvious focus for protesters.

?It?s concrete. It might be winnable. It has global resonance because you?ve got ?? several national governments in Europe that support it,? he said, noting that it clearly distinguishes between the 99 percent and the 1 percent, and had an ?intrinsic fairness? about it. ?It?s a reform that rings sensible to large numbers of people but a lot of work has to be done? . Most people right now I think don?t get it.?

Film Review: 388 Arletta Avenue ? ColumbusUnderground.com

Found footage films started out as a product of independent cinema but they have now grown into a major studio money maker. Not wanting to be left out of the party they ?started?, independent studios are sadly still in the found footage business. Almost by necessity, found footage films have a purposely low budget look and feel to them that blurs the line between an independently made film and a film produced by a major studio. 388 Arletta Avenue isn?t a good film but it succeeds in one spectacular way, it proves that bad found footage films can be released from studios both big and small.

James and Amy (Nick Stahl & Mia Kirshner) live at 388 Arletta Avenue. They?re an average young married couple; their relationship isn?t perfect but they?re in love and trying to make a life with each other. Unbeknownst to them they are being watched through the lenses of dozens of hidden cameras that a mysterious stalker has placed throughout their home. James and Amy?s lives are quickly torn apart by the escalating forms of terror that the stalker enlists.

Disappointingly, 388 Arletta Avenue isn?t nearly as exciting as my brief synopsis makes it out to be. It is neither scary nor thrilling and actually turns out to be quite boring since most of the film is spent watching Nick Stahl pace around and act inappropriately guilty. From the moment the studio logos disappear we?re brought into the videotaped world of James and Amy. They are watched by a mysterious figure that not only records them from his or her own camera but also sets up numerous cameras in their home, car, and office. What starts off as simple pranks like making oldies mix CDs and putting them into James? car quickly become more serious as Amy disappears with hardly a trace. This may sound semi-interesting but the way it?s told is infuriating since it?s usually told through a series of fishbowl lense cameras. Shot after shot is just Nick Stahl walking around the house asking the same question over and over, ?Is anyone there??

Making matters worse is that James lives in an intelligence vacuum devoid of rational thought; repeatedly he makes the most illogical decisions that turn an improbable story into a ludicrous farce. Every time there?s a decision to be made James makes the wrong choice. Whenever he?s presented with an opportunity to help his own situation he does whatever the script requires to make that situation worse and prolong the torment.

Adding to the misery is a pointless plotline involving Bill (Devon Sawa), a victim of James? ruthless bullying as a child that James is trying to make amends with. Equally irrelevant is Amy?s sister who runs the full gamut of being nothing more than a loud mouth who screams ?Where?s Amy?? Both James and Amy?s sister are worried about her disappearance but neither will actually talk rationally with the other which inevitably leads to the clich? ridden ending that will shock absolutely no one.

The characters are neither interesting nor are they likable. James is unsympathetic, Amy is hardly seen, Bill is a time waster, and everyone else looks on with disapproving looks of worry. The most interesting character is shrouded in mystery but even if he had turned out to be the ghost of Jack the Ripper it wouldn?t have saved this film from mediocrity.

Nick Stahl has done some interesting work and deserves better than being stuck in a forgettable found footage mess such as this. 388 Arletta Avenue doesn?t bring anything new to a genre that?s already starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel, nor does it succeed as a thriller or horror film. If you see 388 Arletta Avenue on your cinematic map in your near future you might want to just keep driving.
