Future Pinnacle at EdenHill residents use social media to develop an online neighborhood.
NEW BRAUNFELS ? While traditional media still plays a key role in the lives of seniors, online media is rapidly growing among this demographic.
According to the latest 2012 research of the Pew Internet & American Life Project, ?53 percent of American adults age 65 and older use the Internet or email; 34 percent of [those] Internet users use social networking sites such as Facebook, and 18 percent do so on a typical day.?
Baby Boomers, who are the emerging senior population, have an even greater dependency on online media. The Pew Internet and American Life Project also reports 80 percent of Boomers are online, and among that 80 percent, 51 percent engage in social networking.
As EdenHill geared up in the summer of 2010 to launch its expansion and redevelopment, which includes the addition of The Pinnacle at EdenHill, a 103-unit independent living complex, the sales and marketing staff had the foresight to lay down the roots of a ?new community? long before the building took shape.
