Darren Bolton, one of the organisers said: "Things like this just don't happen in Lincoln, people can experience another country's culture and we aren't just doing it ourselves, we've got Japanese people coming in.

"Hibiki Ichikawa will be one of the musicians and is the only professional player of the tsugaru shamisen instrument in the UK and we also have a local Japanese artist Kauru Shimada taking part.

"There is an exclusive for Lincoln as well with the film Akira being released later this year across the UK for its 25th anniversary but screened at the festival 6 months early."

Doors open at 2pm and the final film ends at 10pm. Tickets are now available online.

In the week leading up to the festival there will be an exhibition of Japanese inspired art from local Japanese artist Kauru Shimada. The exhibition will be held at Cafe Portico, on the ground floor of The Terrace, Lincoln from January 21 to 26.
